Professional Experience

Dr. Chen Mu-Min is currently associate professor at the Graduate Institute of International Politics, National Chung Hsing University, and member/advisor of Taiwan Think Tank, Taiwan. Chen earned his Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in International Studies from Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver, USA (2004 and 1997, respectively), and B.A. in Political Science from National Taiwan University, Taiwan (1992). Before entering academic career, Chen worked as assistant in the Legislative Yuan (national parliament of Taiwan, 1994 -1995) and special assistant to Vice President Annette H.L. Lu in charge of speech drafting and foreign policy analysis (2002-2004). Previous academic experiences include visiting scholar and adjunct lecturer at School of International Studies, Peking University, China (2001-2002); assistant professor, Graduate Institute of Political Science, National Changhua University of Education, Taiwan (2004-2008); visiting research fellow at East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore, Singapore (2008); visiting scholar at Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi (2009), Observer Research Foundation of India (2011-2), and Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses, India (2012).

Chen has published three books: International Security Theory: Power, State and Threat (in Chinese, Wu-Nan, Taipei: 2009), Prosperity but Insecurity: Globalization and China's National Security 1979-2000 (Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany: 2010), and International Relations Illustrated (in Chinese, co-author with Chen Wan-yu, Wu-Nan, Taipei: 2012). His researches focus on non-traditional security issues, political developments and foreign relations of China, and regional politics and security in South Asia.
