Astrid Lipinsky teaches on gender, society and law in modern China and Taiwan (from 1895) at the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna. She is also administrative director of the Vienna Center for Taiwan Studies and the editor of the Vienna Taiwan Studies Series (peer-reviewed). Since 2014, Dr. Lipinsky is a member of the board of the European Association of Taiwan Studies EATS.
Astrid Lipinsky established the Vienna Taiwan Lecture Series in 2012 that is currently supported by the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation, by the Education Division at the Vienna Taipei Office, and by the University of Vienna. The Series have hosted expert scholars from Taiwan and Europe, are run in the English language and are open to the wider public.
Dr. Lipinsky has widely published on Taiwan and China. Her publications are available on her homepage at www.sino-feminae.eu/downloads . She is leading the cooperation with the Taiwan Studies Center at National Chengchi University, Taiwan, since 2009, including, among others, regular bi-lateral Austrian-Taiwanese conference exchanges.
Astrid Lipinsky is currently preparing her habilitation thesis on the female spinster discourses throughout East Asia with a focus on baiquan 敗犬 in Taiwan.
