Hsiu-Hua Shen is an associate professor at the Institute of Sociology at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University and at Asia Research Institute at National University of Singapore. Her major publications and research projects include Yilan’s 228 Incident (1992), Women's 228 Incident: Stories of Political Widows (1997, 2020), the identity politics and transnational family of Taiwanese business people in China, the relationships among housing, marriage, and family among urban Chinese young people, Chinese government’s influences on Taiwanese young people, and Kinmen in between Taiwan and China. She is also an activist in gender and women’s movements and a former chairperson (2016-2018) of Awakening Foundation, a leading women’s organization in Taiwan.
