Theodore Charm earned his Master of Mathematics degree from the University of Oxford and is expecting to graduate from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) with a Master of Taiwan Studies degree in 2015. He is currently conducting a research on small parties in Taiwan at the University of Tubingen with an EATS Library Grant. Charm presented his article titled “The Transformation of the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) Legislative Candidate Selection System after 2008” at the European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS) Conference’ 14. His dissertation, titled “Measuring and Explaining the Success and Failure of the Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU)”, explores different approaches of measuring the success and failure of the TSU and determines the critical factors of the rise and fall of the party since its establishment in 2001. His research interests include party politics, society and culture of Taiwan and politics in East Asia.
