- 1968-73 studied Art History at the University of Warsaw
- 1978-1984 Assistant at the Institute for Art History, University of Warsaw
- 1982 Dr. phil., since November 1984 in the Federal Republic of Germany
- 1984-1989 Lecturer for the Chair of Art History, University of Augsburg
- since 1991 Substitute professorship at the TU Braunschweig and the Universities Munich, Leipzig, Frankfurt a.M., Kiel, Fribourg, Zurich, Torun
- 1995 Doctorate at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt a.M.
- 1996-2001 Managing Director of the Institute of Art History at the Technischen Universität Braunschweig
- since 2001 Professor at the Institute of Art History in Tübingen
