LEAD Graduate School & Research Network

Dr. phil. Thomas Dresler, Dipl.-Psych.

Thomas Dresler is a psychologist by training and joined the University of Tübingen in 2012. He works as a junior research group leader in the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network and as a postdoctoral researcher and deputy head of the research group ‘Psychophysiology and Optical Imaging’ at the University Hospital of Tübingen.

His interdisciplinary research interests and topics cover a broad range from more basic behavioral and neurobiological processes up to educationally relevant topics in real-life settings (e.g., numerical cognition).

During the last decade he was involved in different research projects using the methods of electroencephalography (EEG), near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), but also virtual reality (VR) environments. With these, he and his collaborators investigate the neural foundations of mental disorders (e.g., anxiety disorders, ADHD), the specifically involved cognitive and emotional processes and their modification by different methodological approaches (e.g., psychotherapy and non-invasive brain stimulation). One focus is the combination of neuroscientific methods with education science, to bridge the gap between these disciplines, but also to approach research questions that cannot be answered otherwise.

In addition to the above-mentioned research fields, his major clinical interest is headache disorders and their treatment using psychological measures.

Since 2015, he is a Steering Board Member of the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network representing the junior research group leaders; since 2016, he is a Co-opted Board Member of the German Migraine and Headache Society; and since 2020, he is Deputy Chairperson in the Kompetenznetzwerk ADHS Kreis Tübingen e.V.
