Social and Cultural Anthropology

Internship opportunities

Internships offer the chance to put theoretical knowledge into practice and expand it through work experience. They also serve to get to know the everyday life and work processes of an organization or company through active participation.
That is why the implementation of an internship is firmly integrated into the curriculum (mobility semester). The students can work in e.g. non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions or private institutions.
The areas of work are diverse and vary according to inclination, location and duration. Possible activities include assisting a non-profit organization, working in a museum, a newspaper, radio or television editorial office, or working for freelance ethnologists who are active in organizational anthropology, intercultural communication, museum education or health care.
As a rule, students complete their internship in one of the respective focus areas, currently South Asia or Eastern and Southern Africa. However, there is also the possibility to do an internship in different institutions in Germany.
Depending on the content, the internship should last between three to six months. The Department of Anthropology is continuously establishing contacts with various internship providers. However, there is no entitlement to an internship.
