The project "Exhibiting Design", which is based at the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd and in which the LUI is involved, aims to develop a specific application-oriented system for exhibiting design. The project, which is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg, focuses on the spatial design of exhibitions and the presentation of exhibits.
The discipline of exhibition design is essentially based on empirical values and experiments. There is little applied research, so there are few general recommendations and standards. This is where the project wants to start. It is based in particular on theories of product semantics (Klaus Krippendorff's descriptive models for design objects), museum-analytical procedures and methods, and cultural-scientific approaches to object research and their qualitative survey methods. The core of the study is the analysis of existing design exhibitions with regard to design parameters as well as visitor research based on user experience methods.
