Research Interests

My current field work focuses on the Levant (Israel) and the Caucasus (Armenia). My research emphasizes the analysis of diachronic settlement patterns, landscape archaeology, Pleistocene lifeways, modes of subsistence, environmental reconstruction and coastal adaptations, as well as the origins of personal ornaments. My work examines changes in culture related to new technological and subsistence behaviors at the transition from the Middle to Upper Paleolithic in the Levant and the Caucasus. My other current projects look at the development of ocher use across Africa during the Middle Stone Age and the manufacture of ostrich eggshell beads at Mumba Rockshelter in Tanzania.
