Competence Modelling und Competence Development

Brief Description

The acquisition of competences by pupils is a central concern of modern education. It is therefore vital to understand what skills teachers need to successfully convey the competences their pupils are to acquire. For this purpose, the Project Competence Modelling und Competence Development aims to investigate the competences of prospective teachers in the subjects English Studies and Mathematics, focusing on subject-specific and subject-didactic competences and their relationship to each other.

Research Design

A central element is the development of innovative test instruments to survey competence, which are used together with questionnaires for collecting background information such as gender, subject and A-Level grade. These data are analyzed using, among others, methods from Item Response Theory (IRT). The robust design and forward-looking planning allow for a longitudinal follow-up of the individuals studied.
