”From the thrilling metropolis to the medieval college town”
An academic journey from the picturesque and traditional yet economically dynamic German South to the vibrant and diverse historical capital – experience Germany in two contrasting locations which perfectly complement each other.
Gain knowledge about Europe and the European Union (EU) – its history, its politics and its economy and debate current European issues.
The Tübingen-Berlin International Summer School is a joint endeavor of the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen and its “International & European Studies” program (IES) and “Freie Universität Berlin International Summer and Winter University” (FUBiS).
The integrated program gives you the opportunity to take short-term yet in-depth courses on European politics and economics at two of Germany’s highest-ranked universities: Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen and Freie Universität Berlin are both among Germany's few elite universities that are ranked in the top "Excellent" class.
- The intensive four-week program takes place from 18 June to 14 July 2018: after completing the first two weeks in Tübingen, you will travel to Berlin on June 30th, 2018 for the second half.
- Registration deadline: 30.04.2018
Both classes in Tübingen and Berlin are structured by literature-based discussions and in-class presentations, complemented by group work and group presentations.
The sessions in Tübingen will focus on the history of European integration and the political system of the EU. During a one-day study trip to Strasbourg (France) you will have the possibility to visit the most important democratic institution of the EU: the European Parliament (EP). Furthermore, guest lectures from both practitioners and academics will cover controversial topics such as democracy in Europe, EP elections, or public opinion towards the EU.
The sessions in Berlin will introduce students to the economic integration process of the European Union. The course will also take up current debates in the causes of the euro crisis and Brexit and their consequences for the present and future of the European integration project. In addition to the class sessions, the course program foresees two field trips to relevant political and economic institutions in Berlin.
