Internationales Zentrum für Ethik in den Wissenschaften (IZEW)

Researcher for the project “WeNet – The Internet of Us”

The International Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) at the University of Tübingen, Germany, is an interdisciplinary centre for research in application-oriented ethics. According to its approach of “ethics in the sciences and humanities“, its research focuses on ethical questions in the areas of digitalisation, media, security, technology, nature and sustainability, education, and culture.

We are currently advertising a research position in the project called “WeNet – The Internet of Us” – an international and interdisciplinary project that aims to provide a diversity-aware technology support for developing and maintaining social relationships that transcend geographical and cultural backgrounds (Horizon 2020, Future and Emerging Technologies). The WeNet-consortium focusses on applications in the field of artificial intelligence. Parts of the research are pilot projects for a new kind of mediated social interaction in several countries in Europe and beyond. The vacant position is responsible for the subproject “ethics”.

We look for 1 researcher (full time for 3 ½ years from the earliest possible date) with a background in ethics or social sciences and competences in the field of artificial intelligence and/or theories of diversity and/or data privacy.

The position can be divided into part-time work. It is open to postdocs but also to doctoral students who are able to work independently in an interdisciplinary context. The researcher will be part of the department of Society, Culture and Technological Change within the ethics centre. He or she can expect an interdisciplinary working environment, intense scientific exchange on current ethical topics and an open and friendly atmosphere. The project language is English; German language skills are an asset.

The University of Tübingen intends to increase the proportion of women and encourages female researchers to apply. Disabled applicants will be given preferential consideration if other qualifications are equal.

Please send your application with the usual documents (as one PDF) to PD Dr Jessica Heesen (jessica.heesen@uni-tuebingen.de) until 31 January 2019 at the latest.
Unfortunately, travel costs for the job interview cannot be reimbursed.
