The research activities at CIIS are interdisciplinary and intercultural.
Accordingly, the exchange between the humanities, social and natural sciences is an important focus. In addition, work on intercultural and global issues is a second focal point.
In fact, interdisciplinarity and interculturality belong together. Not only can intercultural research today only take place in the interplay of different disciplines and often transcends the boundaries of disciplines, but the exchange between the major fields of science increasingly requires a reflection of what Philippe Descola calls "plural ontologies" with reference to the culturally different understanding of nature.
CIIS pursues its own research initiatives and also attempts to initiate projects in a targeted manner. In addition, it also sees itself as a communication platform for scientists in all disciplines who want to plan and carry out interdisciplinary research. We invite such projects to be based at CIIS.
