"Bodies, Powers, Norms"

Interdisciplinary seminar series with international research alums. May to December 2021. Everyone is welcome.

Poster "Bodies, Power, Norms"

In cooperation with the University’s Center for Gender and Diversity Research (ZGD), the Tübingen Alumni Relations team is organising a virtual interdisciplinary seminar series on “Bodies, Power, Norms”.

The question of bodily norms and power has challenged and provoked intense debate amongst scholars, researchers and activists over the last few decades. The seminar series provides an opportunity to explore the complex politics of the body, and to think through the ways in which these intersect with race, class, age, gender, and sexuality. During the course of the seven seminar sessions, our international speakers will be taking a closer look at the norms that seek to determine the boundaries of the body and discuss the consequences of bodily transgressions in the context of pornography, art, music, dance and movement.

Bodies, Power, Norms” follows a two-fold aim: (i) to create a global forum for debate and exchange on how power and norms work on and via bodies, and (ii) to spark conversations between international Tübingen University research alums and scholars, students, and members of the general public.
