Diversity Audit

About the Diversity Audit

The “Vielfalt gestalten” diversity audit is an initiative of the Stifterverband, designed to increase universities’ awareness of diversity and help them to create appropriate structures as well as to develop measures that take account of the diversity of students and staff. Each university that undergoes the diversity audit develops a diversity strategy specific to its profile and history. You can find detailed information on the objectives of the diversity audit, the procedure, certification and re-auditing on the website of the Stifterverband.

Re-audit 2021

With the re-auditing as part of the “Vielfalt gestalten” diversity audit, the University of Tübingen demonstrates its commitment to sustainable diversity management. The measures associated with the re-audit help to raise the profile of diversity in academic life and address disadvantages. They divide into the following thematic areas:

  • Strategy and structure
  • Teaching and learning
  • Service and advice
  • Internal and external communications
  • Staff management
  • IT and real estate

Peer Review on 20 July 2021
As part of the re-audit, an online peer review took place on 20 July 2021. This included a presentation and discussion of the University of Tübingen’s diversity strategy to the entire university. Several rounds of discussions on the topic of diversity that were not open to the public then followed. The Stifterverband and peers exchanged thoughts with the management of the university, students, the gender equality representative, project management and with individuals who are engaged in the realization of measures or are otherwise active in the field of diversity.

Re-audit certificate
On 17 December 2021 the University of Tübingen was awarded the “Vielfalt gestalten” certificate by the Stifterverband for a further three years.

Diversity Audit – what is it?

The diversity audit supports vastly different measures at the University of Tübingen. Here are a couple of impressions:

  • The University of Tübingen integrates diversity into its basic and advanced teaching. This can for example include anti-racism workshops.
  • The website of the Diversity Office is a constantly growing information portal. It provides information on the subject of diversity, identifies contacts and raises awareness of diversity in higher education. For example, it offers information on the process of changing name and civil status for students.
  • The University of Tübingen continually works to raise awareness of diversity, and is currently developing antidiscrimination guidelines. These will set out what to do in the event of a complaint, identify sources of advice and define measures for prevention and sensitization at the university.
  • Diversity Consulting: The Diversity Office has compiled information about diversity in the form of text modules for research proposals.
