Biography

Lai Chien-Ni is currently a PhD candidate at Institute of Geography of Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV). She received a double MA degree from the University of Angers, France, in Management of Tourism, Hospitality in 2014, and from the National Taiwan Normal University in European Cultures and Tourism in 2016. She has both Bachelor of Pharmacy and Biology, and has been a pharmacist in Taiwan for more than ten years. Her research interests cover cultural heritage, cultural and national identity and tourism. The purpose of her thesis was to investigate the development of the Taiwanese Hakka identity and its impact on the preservation of the Hakka cultural heritage and to explore how the identity changes have been embodied in the the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act (adopted in 1982) and the Hakka Basic Law (adopted in 2010).
