Project Teaching Workshop (Lehr:werkstatt) in Tübingen
The 'Teaching Workshop' (Lehr:werkstatt) is an alternative long-term school internship for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed. for Secondary Schools).
Instead of conducting their regular three-week school internship, students who take part in the Teaching Workshop, work with their mentoring teacher as a tandem in class for one whole school year (1 day per week). They take part in class life and the experience every day work of a teacher throughout the year. They thus have the possibility to develop their teaching skills gradually in various forms of tandem teaching. In this way, both students and teachers benefit from this internship.
Students have the opportunity to
- collaborate with an experienced teacher and gain deep insight into the teaching profession and a teacher's daily work
- develop understanding for structures and topics from a teacher's perspective for a whole year.
- collect teaching experience and slowly develop themselves as professionals
Schools and teachers benefit from this approach
- Teachers have a teaching assistent when conducting lessons as the student joins the class once a week
- Differentiation acitivities can be conducted more easily, especially in large or heterogeneous classes
- Teachers gain new ideas from their link to the university
