Competence Centre for Sustainable Development

In its guiding principles, the University of Tübingen orients itself by the maxim of Sustainable Development; sustainability is understood as an integral component of research, teaching and management. In order to strengthen and further structurally anchor this objective, the conceptualisation and creation of a Competence Centre for Sustainable Development currently take place at the University of Tübingen. This project of the entire university is located at the IZEW as implementing institution.

Important long-term goals of the Centre are anchoring the perspective of Sustainable Development in the curricula of all subjects, especially in the master and PhD modules and programmes (“Tübingen Curriculum Sustainable Development”), linking research projects and further developing already existing projects and networks. The Centre is supposed to support all members of the university in establishing contacts and finding partners or expertise within and beyond the university. With an Innovation Fund, the Competence Centre for Sustainable Development will facilitate the (start-up) financing of individual projects in research and teaching and focus on the development of competences for Sustainable Development. Especially activities planned by students are to be funded as well. The establishment of the Centre is an important measure with which the University of Tübingen can implement the topic of Sustainable Development more broadly and thus further develop itself as a university location for Sustainable Development, with impulses and connections in the region and beyond.
