EPG-Certificate Form

For the EPG, use the EPG form. You can obtain it from your subject or department or you can fill it in online and print or download it here. (You will need AdobeReader to complete the form online.)

The EPG certificate only becomes valid with the signature of the lecturer and the seal of the issuing institution, i.e. your subject or faculty.

Grading / Examination Modalities

For successful participation, the certificate must be graded at least with 'sufficient'. The grades and other examination modalities are governed by the examination regulations according to which the student studies.

Gymnasial Teachers' Examination Regulations I (GymPO I)

Students according to the Gymnasiallehrerprüfungsordnung GymPO I of 31.7.2009, i.e. students who have commenced their studies or changed to GymPO I since winter semester 2010/11:

receive marks in one-third steps: very good (1.0), very good minus (1.3), good plus (1.7), good (2.0) etc. (cf. Study and Examination Regulations of the Eberhard Karls University for the course of studies teaching at grammar schools (here: § 18)
cannot repeat a passed exam once again.
can repeat the examination twice if they fail (or attend a new seminar).
are in principle free to choose in which subject area (also outside their subject combination) and when they take the EPG. However, it is strongly recommended to take EPG 1 before EPG 2 or to make attendance at an EPG 1 course a prerequisite for attendance at an EPG 2 course.
can only acquire one certificate in a seminar; the so-called double exploitation is not possible.
will be recorded electronically with their performance records for a longer period of time, so that there will no longer be any paper slips here for a longer period of time. At present, the newly established Examination Office for Teachers is electronically registering the grades on the basis of the lists of grades submitted by the lecturers. As an EPG lecturer, please also issue students with an EPG paper certificate for a transitional period and document the grades and examination documents in your documents. Please send your EPG grades with a signed copy (see sample) to the Examination Office by in-house mail and in advance electronically by e-mail:

Scientific examination regulations (WPO)

Students according to the "old" scientific examination regulations (WPO) of 30 March 2001, i.e. students who began their studies between summer semester 2001 and 2010:

receive grades in half steps: very good (1.0), very good to good (1.5), good (2), etc.
receive their EPG certificates personally in paper form and carry them to the Landeslehrerprüfungsamt when registering for the Staatsexamen examination.
can also repeat a passed examination by attending another EPG seminar (e.g. if they want to improve their grade).
are in principle free, in which subject area (also outside their subject combination) and when they take the EPG. However, it is strongly recommended to take EPG 1 before EPG 2 or to make attending an EPG 1 course a prerequisite for attending an EPG 2 course.
Attention: Even students after the WPO can only acquire an EPG certificate or a subject certificate in a seminar; the so-called double exploitation is no longer possible! (The subjects decide on individual exceptions.)

ECTS/module description

The EPG 1 and the EPG 2 module contain one course of 6 ECTS each. EPG seminars are two-hour courses; EPG lectures are four-hour courses or two-hour courses are offered in combination with a two-hour tutorial. The modules are described in more detail in the EPG Module description.

Further examination modalities

Students according to GymPO I are also subject to the requirements of the Study and Examination regulations of Eberhard Karls University for the teaching profession at grammar schools.

Overall University Examination Committee

For students according to the Gymnasiallehrerprüfungsordnung I (GymPO I) of 31.7.2009, i.e. for students who have started their studies since winter semester 2010/11 or changed to the GymPO I, an overall university examination board is appointed for the EPG, the accompanying studies in educational science and the area of personnel competence.
