"What should I do? - This basic question of philosophical ethics can be understood as a question of orientation in human action and life. Ethical questions of orientation are therefore not limited to the subject "philosophy", but run through all areas of human practice.
The Intensive Module Ethicum offers interested students of all subjects the opportunity to deal with ethical questions from society, science and profession in a methodically structured way and to have this certified by a certificate.
Participation in the Intensive Module Ethicum makes it possible to learn the argumentative foundations of philosophical ethics and to use them critically for the systematic reflection of self-selected areas of interest.
The current range of courses can be found here.
In order to obtain the certificate, students must achieve 12 ECTS points in at least four courses (usually 3 ECTS points per course). These are divided into two partial modules:
1. Basic Course in Ethics
At least one "Basic Course in Ethics" must be completed, which introduces the basics of ethical argumentation.
Basic courses with different concepts are available for free selection. Some introduce the fundamentals of ethics on the basis of historical positions, others systematically on the basis of ethical types of theory, others again exemplarily on the basis of a topic (e.g. sustainability).
2. Social, Technical and Professional Ethical Topics
In addition, at least three thematic courses on social, technical or professional ethical issues must be attended:
The courses can be freely chosen and combined, so that, for example, three socio-ethical courses can also be taken.
Further information on the Ethicum can be found on the pages of the Career Service of the University of Tübingen.
