Progress Reports 2022

Week 1

The first week of the HSP-RadCHALLENGE is over!

Results HSP-RadCHALLENGE | ABC:

The kilometers ridden in the first week count a total of 16,811 km for students and 14,237 km for staff (as of Monday morning 09.05.22).
Among the students, one team reached a peak of 2,402 km in the first long week - a strong performance! In the staff teams, one team achieved the top performance of riding a maximum of 1,565 km!
Student teams averaged 382 km while staff teams averaged 419 km. This is well above the weekly benchmark of 250 km, which is more than sufficient to reach the minimum goal of 1,000km by the end of the Challenge!

* The basis of the statistics refers to the teams visible in Naviki (i.e. with at least 5 people) and assigned by us (i.e. students/staff).

Week 2

Half time at the HSP-RadCHALLENGE!

Results HSP-RadCHALLENGE | ABC:

Also in week two there was a lot of pedaling. In total 33.123,00 km were cycled. Thus we are after week two with an intermediate mileage of 75.200,000 km (as of Monday morning 16.05.2022).
Among the students, one team achieved the peak value of a maximum of 1,906.00 km in the second long week - a strong performance! In the staff teams, one team achieved the top performance of a maximum 1033 Km!
On average, the student teams covered 386.83 km and the staff teams 424.54 km - slightly more than in week 1, which is well above the weekly guideline of 250 km, which is very good for reaching the minimum goal of 1,000 km at the end of the Challenge!

Added up, 9951 Kg of CO2 were saved.

* The basis of the statistics refers to the teams visible in Naviki (i.e. with at least 5 people) and assigned by us (i.e. students/employees).

Week 3

In week 3, students are outpaced by staff:

Results of the HSP Bike CHALLENGE I ABC:

A total of 31,692.00 kilometers were cycled this week. Of this total, 15,820 km were by students and 15,872 km were by staff. Thus, the emission of 4,493.95 kg of CO2 was avoided this week. In total, 108,330km were cycled in weeks 1-3. For the first time, staff members cycled more than students.  At the same time, there was a change at the weekly top among the staff. Now it's time for everyone to pedal hard again - the last week is underway!

* The basis of the statistics refers to the teams visible in Naviki (i.e. with at least 5 people) and assigned by us (i.e. students/staff).

Week 4

The HSP-RadCHALLENGE is done!
Results HSP-RadCHALLENGE I ABC:

In the last week the staff members have done 17.825,00 km and the students 14.441,00 km. On average, the teams cycled 445.63 Km (staff) and 300.23 Km (students) in the last week. The best team among the students was for the first time the team No Chain No Gain with 797 Km.  Among the staff, the Naturwissensradler rode to the front again with 1,845.00 Km.

What a strong performance!

In total, 141,072.00 Km were covered by bicycle during the HSP-RadCHALLENGE. According to preliminary figures, 68,282.00 km were covered by students and 69,510.00 by staff.

* The basis of the statistics refers to the teams visible in Naviki (i.e. with at least 5 people) and assigned by us (i.e. students/staff).

Total Ranking

The student team Two Tired took first place with 6144.3 km.

The staff team Naturwissensradler (5218.7 km) came in second, closely followed by the staff team 40 μΩ (5123.3 km).

Adding up all the kilometers of the evaluated teams (at least 5 participants in Naviki), 139,661.7* km were cycled.

Out of 92 evaluated teams, 27 did not reach the minimum number of 1000 km (or their minimum goal, adjusted to the size of the group).

* The basis of the statistics refers to the teams visible in Naviki (i.e. with at least 5 people) and assigned by us (i.e. students/staff).

Total kilometers

A total of 139,569, 00 km were cycled by the valuable team. Of these, students contributed 70,059.00 km and staff 69,510.00 km.

* The basis of the statistics refers to the teams visible in Naviki (i.e. with at least 5 people) and assigned by us (i.e. students/staff).

CO2 Savings

Cycling can save a lot of CO2. This has been shown once again by the HSP-RadCHALLENGE. The figure shows the theoretical CO2 savings compared to a diesel car.

In total, 21,722.77 kg were theoretically saved.

Cycle once - participate twice!

All participants of the "HSP-RadCHALLENGE | ABC", who also cycle faster sometimes, have the possibility to register additionally for our in-house unrestricted competition "HSP-RadCHALLENGE | fast lane". Depending on the fulfilled guidelines, the tracked distance will then be evaluated both for the "HSP-RadCHALLENGE | ABC" and thus for the international university comparison as well as for the in-house "HSP-RadCHALLENGE | fast lane".

Maximum treshold values: "HSP-RadCHALLENGE | ABC":

  • Average speed ≤ 30 km/h
  • Maximum speed ≤ 50 km/h
  • Length ≤ 100 km

HSP-RadCHALLENGE | ABC

The ABC is directed at students and employees of colleges and universities worldwide who want to combine cycling fun, healthy exercise and climate protection.
The goal: to cover as many bicycle kilometers as possible.

Within a selected month (30 days) between April and November 2022, employees and students around the world will pedal and record their daily bike rides with the Naviki app. The University of Tübingen is already entering the race in May and wants to ride ahead!

Join us as we cycle our way to the top in the international university comparison!

Throwback

HSP-RadCHALLENGE 2021

From 01 - 21.05.2021 the HSP-RadCHALLENGE took place for the first time as a digital team event. More than 500 students and employees of the university took part and got on their bikes every day. The goal was to cover as many kilometers as possible, but at least 600km with your own team of 5 and your bike, to leave your car behind and thus make a small contribution to the environment - doing something good for your health and at the same time for the environment has never been so easy! And also the social contacts and the team spirit, which unfortunately often suffer from the pandemic, should be awakened again!

It didn't matter whether it was the way to work, a leisure tour or a few kilometers to the supermarket - every kilometer counted and everyone in the team contributed to the overall goal: namely to cover the distance from Tübingen to Brazil - a total of 9,426km - where a tree planting campaign was to be supported. Sport connects and this was shown once again by the HSP-RadCHALLENGE.

A total of 39 trees were donated, 110,317 km were "cycled" and more than 17 tons of CO2 were saved. The distance from Germany to Brazil was cycled 12 times! No matter if "strong" or "weak" on a bicycle, road bike or e-bike - the HSP-BICYCLE CHALLENGE showed that we can reach our goal together and that everyone contributes to it!

In the end, all but a few of the 12 teams reached the total goal of 600km and were able to secure a place in the lottery! In the following video you can find out if your team was drawn from the lottery pot - aka bicycle helmet - and which prizes you won in this case! At this point a big THANK YOU to all our partners and supporters: Techniker Krankenkasse, Rad und Tat, Volksbank Tübingen, Necker SUP, Neckarmüller, Tübinger Tigers.

HSP-RadCHALLENGE 2020

In 2020, as part of the SGM project BeTaBalance 2.0, the first HSP bike CHALLENGE on Instagram awaited students at the University of Tübingen over the months of July, August, September and October. Spread over 4 weeks starting in the month of July, there was a different "challenge discipline" every week that students could participate in via Instagram using the free Strava app. In doing so, they were able to scoop prizes that were used to support our locals in Tübingen City (local businesses) during this difficult Corona pandemic time. At the same time, the HSP-RadCHALLENGE offered the opportunity to get to know the Tübingen area even better and to get fit and healthy through your studies and the semester break!

At this first HSP-RadCHALLENGE about 65 students participated and were motivated to top performances.
