Coronavirus crisis - Information and measures for people with family commitments

Information for student parents

On 27.04.2020 the Articles of extension of all study and exam regulations at the University of Tübingen regarding management of the Coronavirus pandemic (statutes for teaching and assessment summer semester 2020) came into effect. You can find information here on all the flexibility options in response to the Coronavirus crisis, assessment deadlines, forms of assessment, alternative assessment, thesis-writing periods, maximum number of semesters limits, admission requirements and much more.

Students who need to extend an assessment or exam deadline due to the closure of their child’s school and/or care facility and the subsequent need to look after their child at home, can apply to their examination office for an extension, including details of their desired deadline. A copy of the child’s birth certificate must be attached.

Information for early-career-stage researchers

Covid-19 crisis: Transitional arrangements for academics on time-limited employment contracts

The relevant law, the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG) now includes a time-limited transitional provision to cover the current exceptional situation: The maximum time for academic and artistic staff still in their qualification phase is extended for the period of pandemic-related restrictions on higher education and research operations. Employment relationships for qualification existing between 1 March 2020 and 30 September 2020 may be extended by six months.

Further information on this can also be found here.

In the event that the COVID-19 pandemic continues for longer, the German Ministry of Education and Research is empowered to issue an executive order extending the maximum time by a further six months, dependent on the length of the crisis.

The legislation applies retroactively from 1 March: https://www.bmbf.de/de/karliczek-wir-mildern-die-corona-beeintraechtigungen-fuer-studierende-und-wissenschaft-ab-11331.htmll

Allocation of workspaces in the University Library

If, due to your family situation (e.g. you cannot work undisturbed at home because children are being cared for there), you need a workspace in the University Library (see text at bottom of page), first try to book a session via the Library’s booking system. If all places are taken, please send an email with a brief summary of your reasons to: informationspam prevention@ub.uni-tuebingen.de
