The striking reds of the Grand Canyon in the USA, the morning mist that surrounds the mountain lakes of the Alps, the blue waters of the Great Barrier Reef fascinate the eye. Landscapes of particular natural beauty, ecological significance or cultural value are placed under special protection.

In the form of national parks and nature reserves, considerable habitats can be preserved for numerous animal and plant species. There are 22 nature reserves in the district of Tübingen alone. The nearby Black Forest was awarded the label as Baden-Württemberg's first national park in 2014. At school, you probably learned something about the national parks mentioned at the beginning and may still have some pictures in your memory.
