Professor Stauber teaches educational science with a specialism in social pedagogy. She has been with the Institute of Educational Science since March 1, 2007.
Barbara Stauber is working on biographic transitions, especially from a gender perspective; her research focuses on transitions into the workforce and into parenthood, but also on transitions within youth cultures. Biographic transitions help raise awareness for social pedagogy as both discipline and profession, and that in two ways – first, such transitions challenge social-pedagogical theory and practice; second, they result from social processes in which social pedagogical perspectives and practical approaches are involved. For the analysis of “doing transitions” a critical perspective is needed, alert to intersecting dimensions for generating social inequalities. As research strategy, Barbara Stauber prefers a reconstructive methodology.
