Institute of Historical and Cultural Anthropology

Sound and film archive

The sound archive's holdings are heterogeneous. The oldest audio material of the archive consists of 36 records with folk songs and dialect recordings as well as 18 tapes with folk tales from the 1930s. Several audio cassettes with lectures held at the Institute date from the 1970s and 1980s. There are also recordings of interviews from some projects in the 1980s and 1990s.
Further in-house productions of the Institute are now located at the Tübinger Arbeitsstelle Sprache in Südwestdeutschland.

The film archive contains educational films from the 1930s to the 1950s. A small part of this film stock consists of acquisitions and in-house productions of the Institute (1935 to 1938). In the 1990s, the Kreismedienzentrum Tübingen sent most of the recordings to the Institute. These films show various annual customs or traditional trades. From the 1960s there are also some film recordings of lectures and conferences that took place at the Institute.
