Institutskolloquium IfP (29.01.25) - War and Peace: Can President Trump End Russian Aggression in Ukraine?

Speaker: Volodymyr Dubovyk (Odessa/Eichstätt)

Wednesday, January 29th 2025, 16:00 c.t. / Room 124, Institut für Politikwissenschaft or online via Zoom

About the lecture: The full-scale Russian aggression on Ukraine is about to reach a three years term. The war has been hard on Ukraine, but it retains its fighting spirit. The talk of peace, however, is in the air more and more now. Much will depend on the pro-Ukraine coalition of supporting countries. The U.S. is in the central role here. Previous president J. Biden believed in a need to support Ukraine, even as this aid was sometimes less and later than needed. New president D. Trump has promised that he will end this war, and will do so quickly. Can he deliver on this promise? Within what timeframe? What levers does he have to try and bring settlement to the war?

Volodymyr Dubovyk is Associate Professor and Director of the Center for International Studies at Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University (Ukraine). He is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis (Washington, D.C.).
