CADEIRA - Prof. Baten involved in research project of the Global Centre for Health and Pandemic Preparedness

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is funding a total of eight new global research and teaching centres for health and pandemic prevention as well as for climate and environment in various developing and emerging countries. For an international scientific network, the centres located at local universities cooperate with research-strong partner institutions in industrialised countries. Tübingen Tropical Medicine is responsible for two global centres for health and pandemic prevention.

Education and health-specific behaviour

The contribution of the School of Business and Economics to CAIDERA will be to investigate possible effects of numerical education on health-specific behaviour -- using malaria as an example -- i.e. to consider, for example, problems of over- and under-dosing of drugs as a function of group-specific numerical education investments, as well as the problems of efficient use of, for example, malaria nets. The general economic context of malaria control will also be considered. The plan is to combine this research with a PhD, which will be jointly supervised by the economic and medical sides. In addition, Professor Baten's team from the Chair of Economic History is contributing to the international and interdisciplinary Master's programme.
