Confirmations of the academic supervision of master theses are given twice a year on:
The respective deadlines for the applications are March 31st and accordingly September 30th. The number of confirmations complies with the total number of students that are to be supervised at all departments, and with the capacity of our own department. The department "HRM and Organization" is led by Prof. Dr. Kerstin Pull. In Oct 2014, Jun-Prof. Dr. Philip Yang ("Organization & Strategy") joined the department.
Students are welcome to suggest own topics for their master theses. We are looking forward to your applications. The topics should be in line with the general orientation of our department (personnel economics, organization economics, and strategy). We also supervise master theses in cooperation with companies – however, the research question should be investigated quantitatively (e.g., analyzing archival or survey data provided by the companies). In case that own datasets are generated within the scope of the thesis, those should be subsequently available to the department.
For the next application deadline on April 1st 2019 we suggest in addition to your own and always welcome propositions a list of suggestions by the department. You will find these suggestions here. Whether you prefer to suggest a topic of your own or take up one of our suggestions is your choice and does not affect your chances to be accepted.
The master thesis may be written in English or German.
Please attach an up-to-date transcript of records to your application.
The application form can be found here.
Only complete applications (application form plus transcript of records) will be regarded.
Confirmation of supervision
The confirmations of supervision and – if applicable - a waitlist will be made public on our homepage shortly after the deadline.
After students received their confirmations for the master thesis, they fill out the form provided by the examination office and hand it in at the examination office. After a certain processing time, the students are sent a letter by the examination office which must be presented to the supervisor at the department before the start of the thesis working time. The latest begin of the thesis working time in case of a confirmation towards April 1st is May 15th; in case of a confirmation towards October 1st, it is November 15th. If the student does not react to the confirmation in time, the confirmation of supervision expires.
All students supervised at our department have to present the current state of their thesis at the department’s research colloquium (roundabout 2 months after starting to work on the thesis).
For those students that did not take part in a Bachelor- or Master-Seminar at the department, we highly recommend to take part in a course on scientific writing offered by the department in the context of its master and bachelor seminars.
