Reinforced by the Covid-19 pandemic, teachers are increasingly turning to existing video explanations to support their instructions or even produce video explanations for teaching themselves. Whether these videos are effective for learning depends (among other factors) on the quality of the instructional explanation. Based on existing approaches for good explanations (in ecomonic and business education) and multimedia research, a framework for high-quality video explanations will be created in the research project. The evaluation framework will be validated with videos created by preservice economics teachers. In the long rung, the framework can be used to a) evaluate existing videos with regard to their quality and b) to check whether students' "digital explanation competence" can be developed through trainings. The project is thus designed as a preliminary work for a more extensive project on digital explanations of economics teachers and their effectiveness.
