The Greater China Studies Staff

The Chair of Greater China Studies was established in October 2003. It is the first and so far only of its kind in Germany and Europe. Research and teaching focus on the political, social, economic and cultural developments in the Greater China region – comprising of the PRC, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, and Singapore. Also covered are overseas Chinese (the Chinese diaspora) living both in Southeast Asia and the non-Asian world. Greater China Studies at the University of Tübingen is a comparative and interdisciplinary subject, despite a theoretical and methodological focus on the social sciences. Closely linked to the Chair is the European Research Centre on Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT) which opened for operation in June 2008.
