Chinese Studies

Research at the Chair of Greater China Studies

Research at the Chair of Greater China studies focuses on contemporary politics and society in the PRC, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and also East Asia in comparative perspective. Current research foci are the policy process and local policy implementation in the PRC, private sector reform and state-business relations in the PRC, China’s Taiwan policy and cross-strait relations, East Asian immigration policy and the changing regional order in East Asia under the influence of China’s rise and its transformation into a modern empire. A particular feature of the research at the Chair of Greater China Studies is its strictly empirical approach: all projects are based on intensive fieldwork. This requires a high level of Chinese language proficiency and area expertise which all members of the Chair have acquired.

European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan

The European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT), formally established on June 1st, 2008, is jointly financed by the University of Tuebingen (Germany) and the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange (Taiwan). Its major objective is to promote postgraduate social science research on contemporary Taiwan, most notably in the areas of politics and law, economics, society and cross-strait relations. The ERCCT provides a platform for European and Taiwanese PhD and postdoc students to engage in academic dialogue on theory, methodology and content related to specific research projects, to prepare for fieldwork in Taiwan, to assess the empirical findings brought back from the field and to assist students in publishing their work. For more detailed information about the center, please refer to the CCKF-ERCCT's website.
