The Japanese Studies Center at the University of Tübingen's Asia-Orient-Institute ranges among the largest institutions for Japanese Studies in the German-speaking area. Our four full-time professorial chairs are equally represented and encompass the scientific fields of Japanese culture, language and religion, as well as the research area Modern Japan.
The Tübingen Center of Japanese Studies at Dōshisha University in Kyoto, established in 1994, is the only external branch situated in Japan among the German-speaking Japanese Studies. The compulsory one-year stay abroad in the course of the undergraduate study program secures the sound language training of all our graduates at the Japanese Studies Center in Tübingen.
More than fifteen lecturers provide for a close and individual supervision of all students from the first semester until their Bacherlor's or Master's Degree.
