The focus of Rada Bieberstein's academic research and her key topics include animation and silhouette film; inter- and transculturalism; gender in film and on television; Italian cinema; acting; art and film; media studies.
Furthermore, she is involved in media practice in teaching and contributes regularly to Push events such as KinderUni (Children’s University), and Open Students’ Days. Rada Bieberstein cooperates with research institutions and media organisations such as archives and film festivals. She is involved in the procurement of funding and grants.
Rada Bieberstein studied Film Studies and Art History at the Universities of Dresden and Mainz. Her doctoral thesis was funded by the Federal Graduates Grant Commission Rhineland-Palatinate. Her monographs, contributions and international lectures have been published in German, English and Russian.
In her Master's thesis (2004) she examined the influence of German art criticism on modern art in Bulgaria, in particular the painter Ivan Milev, and on Bulgarian art criticism and art theory at the beginning of the twentieth century. She conducted her doctorate (2007) on the subject of gender representation in contemporary Italian cinema and television.
From 2007 to 2009 she was a lecturer in Film Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. From 2009 she was a lecturer at the Department of Journalism at Mainz University. Since 2010 Rada Bieberstein is a lecturer at the Institute of Media Studies at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen.
