Aim of the study

My bachelor thesis is part of the Effect-Net-project (Effect Network in Water Research). I investigate the effects of guanylurea (a transformation product of the antidiabetic drug metformin) on brown trout (Salmo trutta f. fario) and the big ramshorn snail (Planorbarius corneus). To evaluate the effect of the chemical on the health of these aquatic organisms, two biochemical markers are used. The analysis of changes in the stressprotein level (Hsp70) is used to detect possible proteotoxic effetcs of guanylurea. Besides, the lipid peroxide level is quantified to account for oxidative stress.
