The High-Energy Astrophysics group of the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IAAT) at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen is seeking to fill the following position:
1 PhD position (duration: 3 years; starting date: Feb. 1st, 2019)
in the context of the THESEUS mission related developments at the IAAT.
THESEUS is a mission concept for a transient source detection and follow-up instrument, operating in the UV- to Gamma-band, proposed in response to the ESA call for medium-size missions (M5) within the Cosmic Vision Programme and selected by ESA on 2018 May 7 to enter
an assessment phase study.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and test scientific software routines for the on-board computer prototype of the THESEUS mission and electronic ground support equipment. Additional tasks will include performance simulations, interface testing and data processing from detector prototypes and -simulators. Results of the developments will also be adapted to the data handling of the upcoming Chinese-European eXTP mission.
Applicants are required to have a diploma, master or equivalent university degree in physics, software engineering or electronics.
The position is available starting February 1st, 2019, a later starting date can be negotiated. The salary is based upon the German federal public service scale (50 % of E13 TV-L).
