Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel (1928-2016) writes in one of his works:

"Human beings have the capacity to be responsible, they have the capacity to know what happened in the past and of what they are capable. If they are aware of the evil they can do, they can also know the good they can do." (Hope against Hope. Johann Baptist Metz and Elie Wiesel Speak Out on the Holocaust, p.78)

The Elie Wiesel Research Center is dedicated to furthering scholarly understandings of Elie Wiesel's works and testimonies through interdisciplinary, interreligious, and international cooperation projects. Wiesel’s work can be divided into four main areas — autobiographical, novels and dramas, Jewish works, and essays — each of which is being systematically researched by scholars at the University of Tübingen, the School of Jewish Theology at the University of Potsdam, and the Luxembourg School of Religion & Society, in collaboration with researchers around the world. This body of scholarly work will be appropriately compiled in a complete academic anthology of Wiesel’s written work.

By further developing the body of scholarly literature surrounding Wiesel’s work, we hope to make his writing more accessible for educational purposes and Anti-Semitism prevention programs — especially in the context of building a critical Remembrance Culture and facilitating Christian-Jewish dialogue.
