Tom is modelling technological Carbon Dioxide Removal and its coupling with Earth system dynamics, particularly terrestrial carbon sinks and extreme events. Funded by the NETPEC project, his work incorporates model validation and robustness checks to support these analyses.

He studied Earth and Environmental Sciences in Münster, Östersund, and Tübingen. For his master's thesis, he investigated the effects of intermittent volcanic forcing on natural climate variability in an overshoot scenario.
