About
Geanina Butiseacă is a postdoctoral researcher specialized in paleoclimatology and paleoenvironmental reconstructions. Her current work focuses on Paleolithic sites in Greece (Peloponnese Peninsula) and the influence of Quaternary glacial-interglacial changes over biota in the Mediterranean region. She has a primary formation as a geologist and she uses organic geochemistry (e.g., n-alkanes, alkenones, GDGTs), stable isotopes (δ2H, δ13C, δ18O) and charcoal as main tools for decoding past climates, both at historical scale and in deep time, in continental and marine settings.
Besides paleoclimatology and paleoenvironment, she is also interested in geoarchaeology, archaeobotany, paleontology, paleoecology, paleoceanography, sedimentology, tectonics and structural geology. Additionally, she is interested in the interplay between humans/societies evolution and natural resources/geographical constraints.
Prior to accademia she has activated for six years in the oil and gas industry as an exploration geologist in numerous projects across Afro-Eurasia.
