Google announces results of the Summers of Code 2019

All three systems biology projects completed the Summer of Code.

The three Indian students, Nikhil GhodkeKaustubh Trivedi, and Bhavye Jain, who worked externally with the Systems Biology Working Group of the University of Tübingen over the summer, achieved the goals of this year's Google Summer of Code, as has just been announced.

This project enabled the development of new versions of existing software as well as the basis for the development of new software. For all participants, the project was not only a significant step forward in software development but also marked by cultural exchange. In addition to the former students Roman Schulte and Thomas J. Zajac as well as Thomas M. Hamm and JProf. Dr. Andreas Dräger from the Tübingen Systems Biology working group, mentors from other international working groups also participated in the projects: Dr. Matthias König (Humboldt University), Nicolas Rodriguez (Babraham Institute) and Dr. Lucian P. Smith (University of Washington, Seattle).

The following software of the working group was contributed:

  • In the Java library JSBML a module was created for better support of spatially structured biomodels.
  • The biomodel software ModelPolisher has been updated and is much more user-friendly.
  • The foundations for increased developer-friendliness of the plugin framework InSilicoLab were laid.
