Company visit at Böhringer Ingelheim in Biberach

as part of the module ´Spotlight on current research topics´

Over the course of our “Spotlights” lecture we’ve heard many talks from professors about the
work of their research groups. Of course, talks like that are very helpful for a student trying to
figure out the right path for them. But what about working outside of academia? To answer that
question, we set out to visit the family-owned pharmaceutical company “Boehringer Ingelheim”
in Biberach where we got a tour of the company premises followed by multiple interesting
presentations about different roles in the pharmaceutical industry ranging from upstream
research and development over production to quality control. Many questions were answered,
and our hosts seemed excited to talk with us about their careers and their work.
I’m sure for many of us this visit was a very positive experience and for those considering a
career outside of academia it was helpful to get a clearer picture on opportunities in the private
sector.
I want to thank the company for welcoming us and our coordinators for their planning.
