Laser cooling and Bose-Einstein condensation winter term 2020/2021:
The lecture discusses the manipulation of the atomic motion by laser light, in particular, the cooling by light. We review different cooling strategies, which finally reach temperatures in the nanokelvin range. Here atomic gases enter the quantum regime - Bosons show Bose-Einstein Condensation, Fermions form a degenerate Fermi gas. We discuss key properties of these quantum gases and their role in current research.
The lecture is accompanied by a tutorium and a journal club. Here we dive deeper into the details of this topic and discuss key experiments following the original literature.
