The Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science at the University of Tübingen invites applications for the position of

Full Professor (W3) of Continuous Learning on Multimodal Data Streams

funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation.
The position is due to commence on October 1, 2020.

The successful candidate is expected to carry out independent research and teaching in the field of Machine Learning on Continuous Multimodal Data Streams. The professorship is part of the research alliance Cyber Valley Baden-Württemberg, one of the leading European centers for Machine Learning. The successful candidate will be expected to have an outstanding, internationally visible research profile and to secure external grants. The research focus can be in the area of Machine Learning itself or in its applications in a particular discipline. Expertise is expected in one of the following areas:

  • Transfer Learning
  • Multi-Task Learning
  • Lifelong Machine Learning 
  • Method development in multi-sensor data fusion / information fusion
  • Learning on multimodal data streams
  • Sensors and assistance systems (optical sensors, biosensors)
  • ML-controlled data acquisition

The professorship is intended to strengthen the Cyber Valley Initiative and the new Cluster of Excellence "Machine Learning: New Perspectives in Science". This includes the implementation of joint research projects, for instance in the fields of autonomous systems, computer vision or multimodal medical imaging. 

The successful applicant will be involved in all degree programs offered by the department, including Cognitive Sciences and the applicant will be expected to contribute to the new international Master's program for Machine Learning. A reduced teaching obligation is intended for the Carl Zeiss Foundation’s funding period. Participation in faculty governance and in the committees of the Department of Computer Science is expected.

Required qualifications include a PhD or equivalent international degree and postdoctoral qualifications equivalent to the requirements for tenure. This includes evidence of teaching effectiveness.
