The so-called house of Augustus.

Reconstruction and Semantics of the Decorations in Stucco in the so-called Oecus

The so-called house of Augustus on the Palatine in Rome, excavated in the 1960s, has – as of yet – not been reconstructed in all its details. In the so-called Oecus, in the one of the representative reception rooms of the house, hundreds of stucco fragments were discovered which originally belonged to the room’s ceiling. In recent years, these fragments have been restored and documented.

The main objective of the project is to graphically reconstruct the ceiling and explore its possible impact on the spatial perception. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Ministero per I Beni e le Attività Culturali. Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Roma (Anna Maria Moretti / Roberto Egidi / Maria Antonietta Tomei), the German Archaeological Institute, Rome Department (Henner von Hesberg), and the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke, University of Munich (Ingeborg Kader).
