The focus of Hanne Detel's research and key topics include mediatisation research and medium theories, the social web, strategies of presentation and (unwanted) celebrity in the digital age, scandalisation, Internet shaming and cyberbullying.
Hanne Detel is responsible for PR and marketing at the Department of Media Studies. She is also a B.A. studies advisor. She is collaborating with Prof. Dr. Bernhard Pörksen on a research project on the subject of "scandals in the digital age". Her PhD thesis was published in 2017 ("Netzprominenz. Entstehung, Erhaltung und Monetarisierung von Prominenz im digitalen Zeitalter", Herbert von Halem Verlag, Köln).
Curriculum Vitae
Hanne Detel studied journalism and communication science, public law and East European studies in Hamburg and in South Africa (Stellenbosch University). She received a scholarship from the German National Merit Foundation and the Rudolf Augstein Foundation, as well as a journalism scholarship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. From 2006 until 2009 she also worked for the dpa Deutsche Presse-Agentur, and completed internships with the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the ZDF. For her Master's thesis (2010) she examined scandalising processes on the Internet. Since 2010 she has been on the academic staff of the Department of Media Studies at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen.
