Compulsory wearing of face masks

E-mail from the president to all university members

Dear colleagues,
Dear students,

As of today, 25 September, 2020, the Ministry of Science’s new corona ordinance for institutions of higher education comes into force. It brings about the following changes for employees and students of the University of Tübingen:

Compulsory wearing of face masks

From now on - and not only from 19 October, as originally planned - the use of a face mask is mandatory for all persons entering university buildings. Please always wear a covering over your mouth and nose. This applies to all traffic areas (especially doorways and other entrance areas, passageways, corridors, staircases and sanitary facilities) as well as to rooms and areas at the university that are used for study purposes outside of classes. The face mask can be removed when sitting down (at the workplace or during events).

Students are asked to use their own masks for this purpose. Employees may use their own masks or those provided by the university. However, until the ordered masks arrive, we ask you to use your own masks as well. Thank you for your understanding. In case of emergencies before the ordered masks are delivered, masks are in store at the janitor service centers Morgenstelle and Neue Aula (Hausmeisterdienstleistungszentrum).

For activities where the minimum safe distance cannot be maintained, for example during lab work, disposable masks can still be requested from the purchasing section.

Keep a safe distance

Hygiene rules (etiquette when sneezing and coughing, hand hygiene) and the minimum distance of 1.5 meters still apply in all university buildings. In situations where strong aerosol formation is to be expected, we ask you to increase or even double the distance.

The University of Tübingen has adapted its hygiene concept accordingly. You can find it on the university homepage at https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/171516.

With best regards,

Professor Dr. Bernd Engler
President
