Learning that feels real
Virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) make learning hands-on and immersive — students can explore complex topics by experiencing them directly. Artificial intelligence (AI), on the other hand, enables personalized, adaptive learning support.
Our project brings these two worlds together: we’re developing an AI dialogue partner that accompanies learners in virtual environments — one that can see, hear, and understand what they experience.
What we’re building
The goal is to create a digital learning companion that interacts naturally with students in VR or AR. It can answer questions, ask its own, and adapt to the learner’s progress. This makes collaborative and exploratory learning possible — in a way that feels intuitive and engaging.
Why it matters
Although many schools already have VR headsets or access to AI tools, they often lack meaningful educational scenarios that combine both. Our project fills this gap by providing the technological and didactic foundation for immersive, AI-supported learning.
What makes it unique
- Works across all school subjects and learning materials (3D or 360°).
- Enables real-time dialogue using speech and visual understanding.
- Builds on successful VR/AR prototypes developed at the Future Innovation Space at Leibniz Institut für Wissensmedien.
