Two ERC Starting Grants go to Cluster of Excellence
Two members of the Cluster of Excellence "Machine Learning", Prof. Zeynep Akata and Prof. Andreas Geiger, successful in highly competitive tender
The ERC Starting Grants promote promising young scientists at the beginning of an independent career. The project funding is scheduled for a period of five years.
Prof. Zeynep Akata, who took up a Professorship for Machine Learning at the University of Tübingen on October 1st, is being funded by the ERC with around 1.5 million euros for her prohect "DEXIM", in which she will examine how decisions of artificial intelligence can become more transparent and more comprehensible.
Another Grant has been awarded to Prof. Andreas Geiger from the Department of Computer Science. With a funding volume of around 1.47 million euros, he wants to substantially enhance the possibilities of machine vision in his project "LEGO-3D".
