LEAD Graduate School & Research Network

Marina Isabel Pumptow, M.A.

My current research focus lies on a project concerning self-efficacy expectations and digital media use among university students, which is part of the broader BMBF funded joint project “You(r)Study”.

In this regard, I am participating in the development of a survey instrument to be used for a quantitative measurement of students’ study related attitudes, emotions, motives as well as socio-economic background. The collected data and results will provide the basic material of my (cumulative) doctoral dissertation on the subject of contemporary ways of studying, i. e. the use of digital media and effects on the equality of chances in higher education.

The dissertation is going to be written from a sociological point of view but will also be influenced by concepts of other disciplines, such as pedagogy, educational science and social psychology. Also, in my doctoral dissertation I will especially be addressing three of LEAD’s seven key questions such as motivation and self-regulation for (academic) success, social disparities in education and usage of modern media environments.

To be an active member of the LEAD Network offers a great opportunity to get in touch with other researchers in the subject areas of my personal and project-related interests. Beyond that, an interdisciplinary network to examine and discuss research processes, methods and results from different perceptions in order to optimize them is very valuable especially for me as a doctoral student in the very beginning of my academic work.
