Silke Maria Bieck, M.Sc.

Research Interest

My PhD project deals with the development of children’s and adolescents’ fraction learning and understanding for improving their performance at school. In particular, I want to investigate the neural underpinnings of fraction processing and fraction arithmetic, using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Furthermore, I am interested in methods of neuro-stimulation, in particular the possibility to foster fraction learning via different transcranial electric stimulation techniques, e.g. transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS), transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) or transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS). My aim is to investigate different aspects which contribute to the difficulty of learning and dealing with fractions on a behavioral as well as neural level. Therefore, my project is part of the LEAD Intersection Educational Neuroscience.
