Research interest

My studies and professional work have led me to a nexus of education sciences and psychology. In my research, I focus on intervention studies and extracurricular enrichment activities that foster the development of gifted students. In our projects student`s development is defined in a broad sense, including general cognitive abilities, domain-specific abilities, domain-specific interests, self-concept/performance motivation, self-regulation/self-control, and social competencies.

The Hector Children’s Academy Program offers a rare opportunity to develop courses with teaching and subject specialists, and conduct efficacy, effectiveness, and scale-up studies in the field. In this context, I am also greatly interested in evaluating the extent to which educational interventions are implemented as designed (i.e., implementation fidelity), how intervention work (identification of core components), and how trainings can be scaled up without losing their effectiveness.

Within the LEAD network, I appreciate the exchange with researchers and PhD students from other disciplines, the support structure, and the various learning opportunities (e.g. weekly colloquium, Summer series on Personality Psychology). Just like other humans, researchers do not always recognize their own biases (e.g. confirmation bias, motivated reasoning, hindsight bias) and we often don't realize how many decisions we make during a project (Researchers Degrees of Freedom). I believe that discussing theoretical frameworks, study designs and methods with other LEAD members helps to make decisions and assumptions more explicit and improves the overall quality of the research.
